FILE reaches its 26th edition, underscoring its standing as a benchmark for Art and Technology with an exhibition on Intercreativity at the FIESP Cultural Center.
FILE SÃO PAULO 2026 proposes an in-depth exploration of the human dimension in the face of the advancement of artificial intelligence.

In the opening lecture, Gregory Chaitin, one of the leading mathematicians of our time, discusses human intuition and the limits of artificial intelligence.
In a global landscape where generative artificial intelligence is redefining the boundaries of creation, the International Festival of Electronic Language – FILE reaches its 26th edition, reaffirming its role at the forefront of the intersection between art, science, and technology. From August 20 to October 11, the FIESP Cultural Center hosts the exhibition “Intercreativity”, with free admission. The exhibition challenges audiences to understand creativity as a shared process among humans, intelligent systems, living organisms, and technological environments.
Founded in 2000—before Facebook, YouTube, smartphones, and the widespread adoption of artificial intelligence—FILE reaches its 26th edition while maintaining an ongoing commitment to the exploration of digital art and culture. Since its inaugural edition in 2000, FILE has mapped the transformations of aesthetic expressions created for the digital world. This year, the festival brings together approximately 160 works by artists from 48 countries, investigating how technology ceases to be merely a tool and becomes an active participant in creative, perceptual, and relational processes.

The featured works are the result of an annual research and selection process developed by the curatorial team through continuous dialogue with artists, festivals, universities, and research centers from around the world.

The Conceptual Opening of FILE 2026
The opening of FILE 2026 will be marked by the unprecedented conference in Brazil “Human Creativity versus Artificial Intelligence”, presented by Argentine-American mathematician Gregory Chaitin, one of the world’s leading authorities on algorithmic information theory and the study of the limits of computation.
Alongside epistemologist Virginia Chaitin, a specialist in the Philosophy of Science, the researcher will discuss central questions in contemporary thought: to what extent can artificial intelligence reproduce human creative processes? Are there forms of knowledge, discovery, and imagination that escape algorithms?
Internationally recognized for his contributions to the theory of incomputability and algorithmic complexity, Gregory Chaitin proposes a reflection on the role of intuition, creativity, and the unexpected in the production of scientific knowledge. His conference establishes the conceptual starting point for the exhibition Intercreativity, which brings together approximately 160 works by artists from 48 countries to investigate new relationships between human intelligence, computational systems, and shared creative processes.

Cultural Center.
The exhibition brings together digital artworks and Artificial Intelligence through interactive and immersive installations, virtual and augmented realities, games, random and generative animations, music, video, cinema, live-coding workshops, and urban art at the FIESP Cultural Center’s Digital Art Gallery.
Among the highlights are Algorithmic Perfumery (Frederik Duerinck); Ancestors (Hanna Haaslahti); Transmissions into the Void (Non-Linear) ; A Walled City (Weidi Zhang & Rodger Luo); INEVITABLY BLUE (Sophia Bulgakova); and Gravidade VR (Amir Admoni and Fabito Rychter).

Outdoor Installation
As part of the FILE SÃO PAULO 2026 program, the installation EchoVision, by researchers and artists Jiabao Li and Botao Amber Hu, will feature a special presentation in the outdoor area of the FIESP Cultural Center, in front of the building on Avenida Paulista. On display for a limited time, from August 19 to 30, 2026, the work extends the festival experience beyond the exhibition spaces, inviting audiences passing through the city to engage with an immersive artistic experience in an open-air setting.

The installation EchoVision, by artists Jiabao Li and Botao Amber Hu, will be presented at FILE SÃO PAULO 2026 for a limited time, on display only from August 19 to 30, 2026, in front of the FIESP Cultural Center on Avenida Paulista.

FILE WORKSHOPS 2026 | August 20, 21, and 22
FILE Workshops 2026
From August 20 to 22, FILE will host three days of free workshops for artists, students, researchers, designers, programmers, and anyone interested in exploring contemporary approaches to art and technology.
The program brings together artists and experts from Brazil and abroad for hands-on workshops and sessions dedicated to artificial intelligence, creative coding, augmented reality, live coding, AI-powered audiovisuals, electronic circuits, digital memory, and open knowledge.
More than simply learning new tools, participants are invited to experiment with creative processes, develop projects, and reflect on the impacts of emerging technologies on contemporary culture.
