Symposium Spotlight: Jeyun Yufan Xie
News Member SpotlightInterviewed on February 25, 2026.
When did you first start working with time based/ interactive media?
I began with self-learning animation and music production in 2016, starting an online channel making Otomad/YTPMV and internet meme remixes. Drawing from my background in art, I gradually moved toward original works exploring deeper concepts and aesthetics, expanding into audio-visual performance, installation, and video art.
What inspires your work?
Impulse, and intrusive thoughts in daily life.
Tell us a little more about your work for the symposium
The work is a film co-directed by me and Jake (Xi Wang) in 2024, it's a short film about the eternal moment of a meteorite hitting the earth and our view flashes through all possibilities of the world being destroyed by this catastrophe. We are inspired by the process where people don't realize the long and undistinguishable approaching crisis until the last moment actually comes. In the end it flash back to "normal world" as if everything is just a seemingly intrusive thought. Technically it's a experiment of video-video AI generation that turns the spinning landscape into different scenes.
Do you have any current projects that you're working on that you would like to share?
I'm directing a series of visual art experiment called "Concurrentix", which experiment on logical paradoxes and fragmented cognition in the reversed relationship of a single object and its derivatives that evolved in re-generations, and conssistency of objects and the inter-connection of symbols start to collapse in the process. It is a very personal and perceptive process about identity, relationship and daily life, but also response to our collective memories and shared believes.
As a multimedia artist, I'm preparing my upcoming solo exhibition and live performance in 2026, bringing my music and visual experiments together as a total form to mass audience. It is programmed under the visual protocol of "Concurrentix", with a long music/audio-visual set that brings audience across parallel worlds. Stay tuned, and more news will be shared.
What brought you to the New Media Caucus?
Friends and art community in ASU. Also NMC website/social media are my frequent visit for latest news from other artists/researchers in the field.
