The Art of Disappearing
Deculturalization, the abandonment of cultural heritage, is not a new phenomenon. It has affected many communities, whether through integration, colonialism, war, or other means. Native speakers of local dialects continue to decline in number, traditional crafts are dying out, and folk dances are no longer appealing to younger generations. Recently, this issue has received more global attention and artists, alongside cultural institutions, have rushed to revitalize their fading traditions.
This exhibition brings together three artists who use their works to explore themes of memory, alienation, and loss. Here, their experiences are communicated through various aspects, from solid cultural objects to the abstract notion of identity. Through their work, The Art of Disappearing attempts to examine the phenomenon of deculturalization, questioning what it truly means to lose one's heritage.
