Listening Space – Textiles in Dialogue with Atmospheric Data

Posted June 4, 2026

Listening Space is a collaborative research project by artists-in-residence Afroditi Psarra and Audrey Briot that reimagines the invisible electromagnetic signals saturating our atmosphere as tangible textile artifacts. Using wearable, hand-crafted antennas and software-defined radio, the artists intercept transmissions from NOAA weather satellites as they orbit overhead, decoding them in real time and archiving them through knitting. At the center of the exhibition are large-scale works produced on digitally controlled knitting machines — data physicalizations whose imagery is drawn directly from decoded satellite audio. Positioning the body as an instrument of interception, the project asks who holds the power to "listen" to a changing planet. On view at THE BLANC, New York from June 5- July 5, 2026; opening reception June 5, 6–8pm, with an artist walkthrough June 6.
